Frequently Asked Questions

What's the difference between an energy retailer and distributor?

Peace Power is an energy retailer. That means that we purchase electricity and natural gas in Alberta’s competitive energy market wholesale and retail it to our customers. We also provide retail services including billing, usage reconciliation, and customer service.

An energy distributor owns and operates the infrastructure and distribution systems that transport natural gas or electricity directly to consumers’ homes or businesses. Energy distributors set the delivery charge rates you see on your bill and these rates are in turn regulated and approved by the Alberta Utilities Commission (AUC). Distributors, like ATCO Gas and ATCO Electric, are responsible for responding to emergencies and outages.
